Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the city. After check-in and some time to rest, we’ll hold a pre-trek briefing to review the Sherpani Col itinerary, check your gear, and introduce you to your guide and support crew. Any final preparations, including equipment rentals or permit formalities, will be completed at this time. The evening is free to relax or explore Kathmandu before the expedition begins.

Fly to Tumlingtar and drive to Chichila: (Altitude: 1980 m / 6496 ft | Distance: 497.6 km/ 309.19 miles | Flight and drive duration: 5 hrs)
Today, we take a scenic domestic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar (approximately 40–50 minutes), offering stunning aerial views of the eastern Himalayas. Upon landing, we meet our trekking crew and begin a jeep drive to Chichila (1,900m), a small village and the starting point of our trek. The drive takes around 4 to 5 hours, passing through terraced hills, forests, and rural settlements. Once in Chichila, we settle into a local lodge or campsite and prepare for the days of trekking ahead through the remote Makalu-Barun region.

Trek to Num: (Altitude: 1040 m / 3412 ft | Trek duration: 6 hrs)
After breakfast in Chichila, we begin our first day of trekking with a scenic hike to Num (1,500m). The trail leads us through lush subtropical forests, terraced fields, and small rural settlements inhabited by Rai and Sherpa communities. It’s a moderately paced trek with gentle ascents and descents, offering occasional glimpses of distant peaks and deep valleys. The path can be muddy or slippery during the monsoon season, so careful footing is essential. After about 5 to 6 hours of trekking, we arrive at Num, a ridge-top village with stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. We settle in for the night at a local teahouse or campsite, preparing for a steeper descent and ascent the following day.

Today’s trek takes us from Num to Seduwa (1,540m), a scenic but challenging day with a steep descent followed by a steady climb. We begin by descending sharply through terraced hillsides and dense forest to reach the Arun River, which marks the boundary of the Makalu-Barun National Park. After crossing a suspension bridge over the river, we start a long uphill climb through shaded forest trails and scattered farms. The ascent can be demanding, especially in humid conditions, but the surroundings are rich in biodiversity and offer glimpses of rural life in eastern Nepal. After about 5 to 6 hours of trekking, we reach Seduwa, a small hillside village with a park checkpoint and a few basic teahouses. We register our permits here and settle in for the evening, surrounded by greenery and the sounds of nature.

After breakfast in Seduwa, we continue our trek with a gradual ascent to Tashigaon (2,100m), the last permanent settlement on the trail before reaching the more remote alpine zone. The trail climbs steadily through dense forests of bamboo and rhododendron, passing small farms, terraced fields, and occasional streams. The path is less steep than the previous day but offers a consistent uphill gradient as we gain altitude. We’ll encounter local villagers along the way, often carrying supplies or tending to livestock, giving us a glimpse into daily life in the hills. After about 4 to 5 hours of trekking, we reach Tashigaon, a charming Sherpa village nestled on a hillside with views of surrounding ridges. We stay overnight here and prepare for the tougher, higher-altitude climbs ahead.

Trek to Khongma Danda: (Altitude: 3500 m / 11482 ft | Trek duration: 7 hrs)
Today’s trek from Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,560m) is one of the more demanding days as we leave the last village behind and enter the alpine wilderness. The trail begins with a steep and continuous ascent through dense forest, gradually transitioning into moss-covered rhododendron and fir as we gain altitude. We climb past Unshisa (3,200m), where we may stop for rest or lunch, before tackling the final stretch through rugged terrain and occasional stone steps. The air gets noticeably thinner, and the climb can be strenuous, so we pace ourselves carefully. After 6 to 7 hours of trekking, we arrive at Khongma Danda, a ridge-top campsite or lodge with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. Tonight, we rest well to acclimatize and prepare for the upcoming high passes.

Today is a scheduled acclimatization day at Khongma Danda (3,560m) to help our bodies adjust to the increasing altitude before crossing the high passes ahead. We spend the day taking it easy, with optional short hikes to nearby ridgelines or viewpoints, which offer stunning panoramas of Makalu, Chamlang, and other peaks of the Barun Valley. These gentle hikes not only aid in acclimatization but also allow us to explore the beautiful alpine surroundings filled with rhododendron, juniper, and dwarf bamboo. We return to camp for rest, warm meals, and hydration, all essential for adapting to higher elevations. This day also provides time to reorganize gear, check equipment, and mentally prepare for the challenging trail that lies ahead.

Trek to Dobato: (Altitude: 3500 m / 11482 ft | Trek duration: 6 hrs)
After a good rest and acclimatization at Khongma Danda, we begin one of the most scenic and challenging segments of the trek as we cross several high passes en route to Dobato (3,650m). The day begins with a steep ascent to Khongma La Pass (3,876m), followed by a series of ascents and descents over Sano Pokhari Danda and Shipton La (4,216m), the highest point of the day and a major landmark of the trek. The trail winds through alpine ridges, rocky slopes, and pristine high-altitude landscapes, offering breathtaking views of Makalu, Chamlang, and other snow-capped peaks. After crossing the passes, we descend gradually through yak pastures and rugged terrain to reach Dobato, a small campsite nestled in the highlands. The trek takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, and we spend the night at a tented campsite or basic shelter, resting after a tough but rewarding day.

Trek to Chukung: (Altitude: 4730 m / 15518 ft | Trek duration: 9 hrs)
This is one of the most challenging and technical sections of the trek. The day begins very early (often around 2-3 AM) with a steep climb over rocky and icy terrain to reach the Amphu Laptsa Pass, a high and technical crossing that may require fixed ropes, crampons, harnesses, and guidance from experienced climbing staff. The ascent is steep, and the descent on the other side toward the Imja Valley is equally demanding, often involving abseiling or carefully descending fixed lines. After crossing the pass, you descend into the Imja Valley, with Chukhung (4,730m) as your destination. After about 4 to 5 hours of trekking, we arrive in Lukla (2,860m), where we celebrate the completion of a challenging and rewarding journey with our team. In the evening, we enjoy a well-earned rest in Lukla, ready for our flight back to Kathmandu the next morning.

This morning, we take an early flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, a scenic 30–35 minute journey offering one last aerial view of the Himalayan peaks. Weather permitting, we depart from Lukla Airport and arrive in Kathmandu, where you'll be transferred to your hotel. After days in the mountains, the return to the bustling city marks the end of an unforgettable adventure. The rest of the day is free for rest, shopping, or exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel at your own pace.

Today marks the end of your journey with us in Nepal. Depending on your flight schedule, we’ll arrange a timely transfer from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure.
