  • Arrive in Kathmandu: (Altitude: 1,280 m/ 4,200 ft)

    Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from our trekking agency and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you’ll meet our guide for a detailed trek briefing and to finalize the necessary permits for Lower Dolpo, including the Restricted Area Permit and Shey Phoksundo National Park entry permit,

  • Fly to Nepalgunj: (Altitude: 150 m / 492 ft | Flight duration: 45 minutes)

    On the first day, we will be flying to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. The flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj is a short yet scenic journey, taking approximately one hour. Nepalgunj, located in the southwestern Terai region of Nepal, serves as a major gateway for treks to Dolpo and other remote areas. The flight offers stunning aerial views, transitioning from the rolling hills of the Kathmandu Valley to the flat, tropical plains of the Terai. Nepalgunj itself is a bustling city near the Indian border, known for its hot climate, diverse culture, and vibrant markets.

  • Fly to Jhupal and Trek to Dunai: (Altitude: 2850 m / 9350 ft | Trek duration: 3-4 hrs)

    Our flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal takes about 35-45 minutes, offering us breathtaking views of the Himalayan foothills and deep river valleys. Juphal, a small mountain airstrip, is the starting point of the Upper Dolpo trek. From Juphal, we are going to trek to Dunai. The trek to Dunai, the administrative center of Dolpa district, takes around 3–4 hours. The trail descends through terraced fields and follows the Thuli Bheri River, passing through small villages and lush landscapes. Dunai, located at 2,140 meters, is a relatively well-developed town with basic facilities, making it a crucial stop before venturing into the more remote regions of Dolpo.

  • Trek to Tarakot: (Altitude: 2,537 m / 8,323 ft | Trek duration: 5-6 hrs)

    After having breakfast, we are going to start our trek to Tarakot. The trek to Tarakot is a scenic and relatively moderate hike through the rugged terrain of the Lower Dolpo region. The route follows the Bheri River, passing through terraced fields, sparse forests, and small villages, providing glimpses into the traditional lifestyle of the local communities. Along the way, you encounter ancient stone stupas, chortens, and mani walls, reflecting the area's strong Tibetan Buddhist influence. The trek offers a peaceful atmosphere, with majestic mountain views and the occasional sighting of wildlife. The journey culminates in Tarakot, a historic village known for its ancient fortress and Buddhist monasteries, making it a culturally enriching part of the Lower Dolpo trek.

  • Trek to Laini: (Altitude: 3160 m / 10367 ft | Trek duration: 6 hrs)

    We will start trekking to Laini after having an amazing overnight stay at Tarakot. The trek to Laini is a beautiful and moderately challenging stretch through the remote valleys of the Lower Dolpo region. Starting from the historic village of Tarakot, the trail follows the Bheri River and ascends gradually, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains. The path is marked by traditional stone villages, terraced fields, and peaceful landscapes, showcasing the unique blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture and rural life. Along the way, you may encounter ancient chortens and prayer flags, adding a spiritual touch to the journey. Reaching Laini, a small settlement, marks a key point in the trek, where you can rest and enjoy the serene atmosphere before continuing further into the Dolpo region.

  • Trek to Nawar Pani: (Altitude: 3545 m / 11630 ft | 5-6 hrs)

    After completing our morning ritual, we are going to start trekking to Nawar Pani. The trek from Laini to Nawar Pani takes trekkers deeper into the remote landscapes of Lower Dolpo, with the trail winding through rugged terrain and scenic valleys. Starting from Laini, the route gradually ascends, passing through forested areas and picturesque villages. The path follows the course of the Bheri River, with views of cascading waterfalls and lush vegetation on one side, while the arid, rugged mountain slopes rise on the other. As trekkers move toward Nawar Pani, the environment becomes more isolated, providing a tranquil escape into nature. Nawar Pani itself is a small, serene settlement where you can relax and experience the peaceful, traditional lifestyle of the region, preparing for the continuation of their trek into the heart of Dolpo.

  • Trek to Dho Tarap: (Altitude: 4,040 m / 13,254 ft | Trek duration: 6-7 hrs)

    The trek from Nawar Pani to Dho Tarap is one of the most captivating sections of the Lower Dolpo trek, offering a dramatic change in scenery as you ascend to higher altitudes. From Nawar Pani, the trail gradually climbs through steep, barren landscapes dotted with small villages and occasional herders' camps. As you trek further, the vegetation thins, and the terrain becomes more arid, resembling the Tibetan plateau. The route offers stunning views of snow-capped peaks and deep valleys, as well as opportunities to observe local wildlife. Upon reaching Dho Tarap, you enter a high-altitude valley surrounded by towering peaks, where you’ll find one of the largest settlements in Dolpo. This village is a cultural hub, home to the Tibetan Buddhist communities, and is renowned for its monasteries, ancient stupas, and traditional architecture, offering a deep cultural immersion before continuing the trek.

  • Acclimatization at Dho Tarap: (Altitude: 4,040 m / 13,254 ft)

    An acclimatization day at Dho Tarap is essential for adjusting to the higher altitude before continuing the trek. Situated at around 4,090 meters (13,420 feet), Dho Tarap is a high-altitude village where you can take a well-needed rest while allowing their bodies to adapt to the thinning air. During this day, you can explore the village and its surroundings, visiting ancient monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags that are scattered throughout the area. The region’s unique Tibetan Buddhist culture is evident in the architecture and local customs. To aid in acclimatization, you may also engage in a short hike to higher elevations around the valley, providing gradual exposure to higher altitudes while reducing the risk of altitude sickness. This rest day is a crucial part of the trek, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable journey as you prepare to venture further into Dolpo’s remote landscapes.

  • Trek to Numa La Base Camp: (Altitude: 4440 m / 14566 ft | Trek duration: 6 hrs)

    Today, you will trek to Numa La Base Camp. The trek to Numa La Base Camp is a challenging yet rewarding journey, taking you through remote, rugged landscapes at high altitudes. From Dho Tarap, the trail begins with a steady ascent through dry, barren terrain, gradually leaving the valley and entering more mountainous regions. The path is marked by sparse vegetation and rocky slopes, with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks and deep gorges. As you near Numa La Base Camp, the altitude increases, and you are treated to sweeping panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks. The camp itself is situated at a high elevation, offering an excellent vantage point to rest and prepare for the crossing of Numa La Pass, one of the trek's highlights. This section of the trek requires a good level of fitness and acclimatization due to the altitude.

  • Trek to Pelung Tang: (Altitude: 4465 m / 14648 ft | Trek duration: 6-7 hrs)

    After having a hearty breakfast, today we will be trekking to Pelung Tang. The trek to Pelung Tang is a challenging yet scenic section of the Lower Dolpo trek. After leaving the base camp, you begin their ascent toward the Numa La Pass, which stands at an elevation of around 5,190 meters (17,030 feet). The trail is rugged and steep, with expansive views of snow-capped peaks and high-altitude landscapes. Crossing the pass can be tough due to the altitude, but the reward is a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. From the pass, the descent leads to Pelung Tang, a small and tranquil spot located at a lower elevation. This stretch provides an incredible sense of accomplishment, as you transition from the high, challenging terrain to a relatively peaceful valley, where they can rest and enjoy the beauty of Dolpo's remote landscapes.

  • Trek to Dajok Tang: (Altitude: 4080 m / 13385 ft | Trek duration: 6 hrs)

    The trek from Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang is a relatively moderate yet picturesque section of the Lower Dolpo trek. Leaving Pelung Tang, the trail descends through beautiful valleys and open meadows, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and hills. As you make your way through this remote region, you will pass small settlements, herders' camps, and wide pasturelands, where local villagers and their yaks graze. The landscape gradually becomes more arid as you continue toward Dajok Tang, a peaceful and isolated area. This part of the trek allows for a gradual descent, offering a much-needed respite after the challenging ascent to Numa La and the preceding high-altitude sections. Dajok Tang itself is a serene location, providing you with a quiet place to rest and soak in the tranquility of the Dolpo region before continuing the journey.

  • Trek to Ringmo: (Altitude: 3600 m / 11811 ft Trek duration: 4-5 hrs)

    The trek from Dajok Tang to Ringmo offers a scenic and relatively challenging route in the heart of the Dolpo region of Nepal. Starting from Dajok Tang, the trail winds through rugged landscapes, passing small Tibetan-style villages, with traditional stone houses and lush terraced fields. The path ascends gradually, offering panoramic views of towering peaks and deep valleys. As you make your way towards Ringmo, you will cross alpine meadows and forested areas, with the scent of pine and juniper filling the air. Ringmo itself is a picturesque village located near the serene Phoksundo Lake, where the trek culminates with stunning vistas of the turquoise water and the surrounding snow-capped mountains, making it a rewarding endpoint for this trek.   • Acclimatization Day at Shey Phoksundo lake: (Altitude: 3,611.5 m /11,849 ft)

    An acclimatization day at Phoksundo Lake allows us to adjust to the altitude while exploring the stunning surroundings. We can take short hikes around the lake, visit the traditional Tibetan village of Ringmo, or explore the ancient Bonpo monastery nearby, gaining insight into the region’s unique culture. The lake’s deep turquoise waters, set against dramatic cliffs and snow-capped peaks, offer breathtaking views and a perfect spot to relax. This rest day is essential for adjusting to higher elevations.

  • Trek to Shyanta: (Altitude: 2,520 m / 8,267 ft | Trek duration: 4-5 hrs)

    The trek from Phoksundo Lake to Shyanta takes you through dense forests, rugged terrain, and traditional Dolpo villages. Starting from the lake, you descend through juniper and pine forests, crossing suspension bridges and passing small settlements like Ringmo. The landscape shifts from lush greenery to more arid, semi-desert terrain. Shyanta, a peaceful village, offers a glimpse into the unique Tibetan-influenced culture of the region, set against dramatic mountain views.

  • Trek to Jhupal: (Altitude: 2,320 m / 7,611 ft | Trek duration: 5-6 hrs)

    The trek from Shyanta to Jhupal descends through terraced fields, forests, and small villages. The route follows rivers and streams, offering scenic views of hills and distant peaks. As you approach Jhupal, the landscape becomes more open, and the town serves as a gateway to the Dolpo region, with an airstrip marking the trek's end.

  • Fly to Nepalgunj and the fly back to Kathmandu: (Altitude: 1 hour 30 minutes)

    Today it’s a short flight back to Nepalgunj then a change of flight on to Kathmandu.
